The Children's Fund funds additional preventative services for children aged 5-13, often delivered through the voluntary and community sector. It was originally due to end in March 2008, but in July 2007 the Government announced a £396 million investment nationally to continue the Children's Fund, with £132m allocated for each of the three years from 2008 to 2011. The money will be distributed through local authorities and pooled with other funding to form a new area-based grant and the Government is keen that local authorities and their partners continue to maintain a strong engagement of the voluntary and community sector in using these funds.
There will be an emphasis on supporting projects that specialise in early intervention and prevention, and which are having a notable impact on school attendance, as well as projects that are improving the skills and emotional wellbeing of parents to help them better support their children, and improving relationships between families and professionals.
The Children’s Fund Evaluation website provides access to examples of good practice and services on the ground.
