Beacon Peer Support Scheme

The Department for Communities and Local Government's (DCLG) beacon scheme is a well-established award programme for innovative performance across a range of themes which are freshly nominated each year.
Winning authorities are then eligible for further awards under the Beacon Peer Support Scheme. This funding is available for them to use to finance peer support work with other named authorities.

As well as offering advice at the bidding stage, Government Office for the North West recommends awards to the national DCLG adjudication panel. In some instances authorities are uncertain about where their expertise could most usefully be targeted. Government Office for the North West is in a position to identify authorities with weaknesses in areas where other, beacon authorities can demonstrate expertise, and we broker contacts for mutual benefit.

The North West winners of beacon peer support funding in 2004 included:

  • Lancashire county Council
  • Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council
  • Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council
  • Halton Borough Council
  • Blackpool  Borough Council
  • Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority
